UTS in collaboration with IETE, Warangal sub centre has jointly conducted a one day seminar on “FPGA based design for VLSI and Embedded system applications” at Asoka Hotel, Hanamkonda on 28th July 2007. Inaugural session was adorned by the below dignitaries of IETE and UTS.
Chief guest Hyderabad
Prof K Lakshmi Narayana, Chairman, IETE
Chairman, IETE warangal sub centre
Prof . Kishan Rao
Secretary, IETE warangal sub centre
Sri Krishna Reddy
Treasurer, KITS Warangal
Sri Thotam Reddy
Senior rep from UTS
Sri S Nagendra
The Seminar started with a brief talk by Shri Krishna Reddy about the recent progress made by IETE sufficient enough to make the sub center a center. They acquired the new premises at Mayuri Hall, Hanamkonda which is fully established with spacious class rooms, computers and Electronic lab equipment. Prof kishan Rao highlighted the importance of VLSI Technology in the day to day applications. He also expressed his pleasure that UTS has taken initiative to provide know how regarding FPGA in VLSI design. He advised senior representative of UTS to take the lead role in providing assistance to the academic projects of the students. Prof K Lakshminarayana highlighted the crises, industry is facing for the experts in VLSI field. He also mentioned that IETE should take the charge to fulfill the short falls in this area by imparting proper training to the students. He appreciated the IETE sub center for conducting such an informative session involving UTS. He congratulated IETE sub center for its efforts, to make the sub center self sustaining.
Pre Lunch Session
Lecture 1: HDLs in VLSI and Embedded system applications
Todays FPGAs are used extensively in ASIC design for prototyping applications. This talk mainly compares and contrasts the FPGA prototyping approach with Emulation based approach for verification of complex ASICs. You can download the presentation slides from here.
Lecture 3: Hardware & software co-Design for efficient embedded system design
In modern embedded system design on FPGA hardware & software co-design is preferred approach for SOC design. In this talk the concept and design flow in Hardware & software co-design are presented.
Lecture 4: FPGA Based Embedded System Development
Today industry relies on soft processor cores for high end embedded system realization and SOC implementation. In this presentation the design flow with Xilinx Embedded development kit is explained while comparing with traditional processor based design.
